May/June Meeting

Well another month has gone by and time for us to meet up again. A lot has happened since our last meeting and we will have a lot to talk about.

Since our last meeting I have attended two Adobe conferences and talked to 5 Adobe Evangelists about the future of their products and many other topics.

This month we also have a guest speaker. We hope to make this a permanent part of our monthly meetings as well.

Mike owns Aileach Design [http://www.aileach.com/] and his company provides consultancy and innovative web solutions, specialising in design and development of rich internet applications, web design and mobile applications. Their products and solutions are are tailored to fit any size business requirements, including full backend and database support. Technologies used include ColdFusion, Flex, JAVA, Flash and Adobe AIR.
Mike will be discussing his history with Flex and the Adobe Development team and show us how he his company is using Flex and AIR.

Round-Up: Adobe AIR & Flex Events

I have recently attended a few Adobe events in Dublin and have a round up of all the related news and links from the two combined events.

Flex

Adobe Flex is an amazing tool for developing rich internet applications using Flash.

Anyone who is a student or a teacher can get a free copy of Flex by providing proof on enrollment or employment. I highly recommend you apply to get your free copy and give it a spin.

Lynda.com has a bunch of great video tutorials on how to use Flex and so does Adobe, below are some links to some of them for you and a link to apply for your free copy of Flex.

Meeting Notes: April Meeting

Our April meeting was a very quiet one and it’s my own fault because I failed to inform everyone in a timely manner. I apologize for that and promise to be better at that in the future.

News: New User Groups:
We have some new user groups coming to our area, well they are going to be starting in Derry and will run on different dates during the month. Tim Kelly will be managing one of the new groups and I have not met the manager of second group which will be focused more on Cold Fusion. So if once a month is not enough for you to be meeting other Adobe users or you live closer to Derry, now you have more choices. I want to personally welcome them both to the neighborhood and hope to do some coordinated events together in the near future. I will pass on more details as they become available.

that would be complex with either tool alone. In this session we will
take a look at creating ‘Hollywood style’ text animation effects, and
then bring them into your Flash project for use on the web. Then we will

After Effects to add richness, and a broadcast quality finish to your

Adobe making hardware?

I found this article today with a video attached with a small presentation from an Adobe developer. In it he shows a new lens that has multiple lenses each with a different depth of field. If you watch the demo you can see what this would mean for photography and photographers.

I like to see Adobe actually thinking of making hardware and not something that would put them in direct competition with other camera makes. A lens is a great idea.
