New multimedia users group to hold monthly meetings

BY SEÁN P. FEENY

An informal meeting for the newly-formed Adobe Users was held at the Silver Tassie, Letterkenny recently.

The meeting, which will take place on a monthly basis, was organised by Multimedia Users Group of Ireland (MMUG) to discuss the benefits of being a member of the group and the resources available from Adobe.

Christian Gehrke, founder of MMUG, said that this group offers a place for both professional and amatuer users of any Adobe product to exchange ideas, techniques and participate in group events.

He said: “We first formed the group in January 2007 and up until now most of the interaction has been online through our website (www.mmug-ireland.org) with forums and e-mails.

“The reason we have been doing things online as finding a place to meet on a regular basis was quite difficult as most places wanted the group to pay a fee to meet.”

The Silver Tassie has agreed to let the group use the common area of the hotel and use its highspeed wireless connection facilities for the time-being.

“There is no fee to join this group,” said Christian. “The advantages for members include discounts on online training programmes, Adobe software, O’Reilly and Peachpit training books and discounts on tickets to multimedia conferences and seminars.”

Christian said that not only do you get these great discounts but you can also call upon your fellow members to help solve any software trouble you might be having.

He said: “It’s also a great means of networking and meeting like-minded individuals that can assist on various projects.”

MMUG currently has 18 members on their mailing list which range from photographers, web developers to graphic designers.

“These are they type of members we are looking for but we would welcome anybody who has ever thought of purchasing an Adobe programme or wants to learn about it, plus the people who use it on a daily basis and want to improve their skills.”

You can contact the group via the website www.mmug-ireland.org or contact Christian directly on Tel 087 278 9570 or e-mail chris@mmug-ireland.org
